Police arrest five suspected kidnappers who killed victim after collecting N5m ransom


The Kaduna state police command has arrested five suspected kidnappers who killed their victim after collecting N5 million ransom.
The suspects, according to a statement on Wednesday by the spokesman of command,
Mohammad Jalige, include Musa Adamu (from Wase LGA, Plateau state), Alhaji Sa’adu (from Asaba, Delta State),
Abubakar Adamu alias Katakoje (from Ibeto village, Niger State), Muhammed Nuhu (from Minjibir LGA, Kano State) and Emmanuel James alias Doctor (from Asaba, Delta State).
The suspects were said to have abducted one Alhaji Ahmadu, sometimes in 2020 and killed him after collecting a ransom of N5 million.
The deceased was said to have travelled to Delta state on December 9, 2020, but never returned and could not be reached on his mobile phone.
According to the statement Abdullahi Salihu, the deceased younger brother lodged a complain at the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Panbeguwa on the whereabouts of his brother.
The statement said, “on 30th December, 2020, the Command received a complain through the DPO in Panbeguwa from one Abdullahi Salihu, a resident of Panbeguwa village that on the 9th December, 2020 his elder brother Alhaji Ahmadu
travelled to Delta state but never returned and that all
efforts to reach him through his mobile telephone proved abortive.”
Jalige said: “The complainant further stated that on the 12th December, 2020 he received a phone call via an anonymous number, informing him that his brother is in the custody of the caller and a demand of the sum of N4 million as ransom for his release was made.
“It is however disheartening that the said amount was paid but the abductors failed to release the victim and demanded for an additional N1 million which the family obliged yet could not secure the freedom of the victim.
“Meanwhile, on receipt of the complaint, the Command immediately swung into action using the available intelligence, technical support and succeeded in arresting one Musa Adamu ‘M’ in Wase LGA of Plateau State in connection to the incident.
“Upon interrogation, he made mention of his accomplices and equally confirmed that they have since killed the victim.”
Jalige said a bit to ensure that justice is served, the Kaduna state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Muri, ordered for an expanded investigation, using the available information from the first suspect in custody.
According to him, the investigation led to the arrest of the other four suspects.
“It is worthy to note that all the suspects confessed to have been involved in the kidnap and gruesome murder of Alhaji Ahmadu as well as other kidnapping incidents prior to the present one”, the police spokesman said.
According to him, the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigations is completed.
He said concerted efforts were being made to apprehend the other four suspects currently at large.
The statement called on residents of the state to
to promptly report any suspicious disappearance of their loved ones and wards to the nearest police station for immediate action.
