Gunmen attack Kaduna community market, kill 7

Gunmen dressed in military camouflage, on Wednesday, invaded a local market in Maro village, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing seven people.
Five others were said to have sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Peter Joshua, president of the Adara Youth Congress (AYC), said the incident occurred at about 6:00pm.
He said the bandits arrived the market in a vehicle and the traders thought they were the soldiers who always come to the market on patrol every market day.
On Wednesday, 21 people, including a family of 13
were murdered in a similar attack when bandits invaded
Balali village, Giwa Local Government Area of the state.
Joshua said the traders were just closing from the market when the gunmen, on arrival, shot at them, killing seven people on the spot while five others were injured.
According to him, nobody suspected that they were killers because soldiers to patrol the market.
He said: “They came to the market around 6:00pm when people were closing for businesses.
“They came in a vehicle and they were dressed in camouflage.
“Normally, every market day, soldiers come to the market on patrol. So when they arrived, people thought they were the normal soldiers on patrol.
“Suddenly, they opened fire and seven people were killed on the spot while several others were injured”.
President of the Adara Development Association (ADA), Mr. Awema Maisamari, in a reaction, condemned the attack.
Awema said the attack implies that the enemies of peace have passed a vote of no confidence on investigations currently being carried out by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Kaduna state government to look into the massive killings and destructions that ravage communities Kajuru Local Government last year.
“Their dastardly act has once more caught our community off-guard. How long will government continue feigning ignorance of the actors and masterminds and the embarrassing leadership failure of the “giant of Africa”? he stated.
The Kaduna state police command, confirmed the incident in a statement by Muhammad Jalige, its spokesman.
Jalige said the “the armed men entered the village market in a vehicle and started shooting sporadically and in the process shot some people”.
He said “on receipt of the information, DPO Kajuru and Kachia immediately mobilised patrol teams to the area to restore normalcy but unfortunately seven persons were found dead and five were injured.”
According to him, investigation and a manhunt for the fleeing bandits had commenced with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the barbaric act of criminality to justice.
Jalige said the command was deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and had already beefed up security in the area to ensure no further break dawn of law.
The statement called on the general public to promptly report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest security agencies with a view to proactively preventing re-occurrence of such dastardly act against law abiding citizens of the state.
