Plateau PDP file petitions challenging Lalong’s re-election, others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state and it’s governorship candidate, Senator Jeremiah Useni has filed a petition at the election tribunal, challenging the declaration of Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the just concluded governorship election in the state.
The PDP is also challenging five National Assembly and four House of Assembly seats, won by the APC in the state.
In a statement on Friday in Jos, Abraham Yiljap, Chairman, Media and Publicity of the state Campaign Council, said the party’s legal team has commenced filing petitions before the tribunals.
“There are at least five national assembly and four state house of assembly seats as well as the governorship that the council’s legal experts are challenging at the tribunals.
“The lawyers are set to beat the dateline for the legislative seats which expires this weekend, while work has intensified on the governorship petition” Yiljap said.
He quoted the legal team as saying that some “very interesting discoveries” had been made in the course of preparing the petitions.”
The statement added that the legal team was also gearing up to defend petitions that may be contemplated against PDP elected representatives.
The statement further said Useni had ”expressed determination to go all the way to legally recover the mandate freely given by the people of Plateau but hijacked through widespread electoral manipulations and intimidation.
“It is not yet over. This is only a temporary set back. We have entered another critical stage in the restoration strategy” the statement quoted the governorship candidate as saying.
