Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung has explained why he was absent at the flag off of the Plateau State Campaigns of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday in Jos.
The minister was conspicuously absent at the flag off of Governor Simon Lalong’s re-election campaign at the Rwang Pam Stadium, fuelling rumours of a sour relationship between Dalung and the governor.
But giving reasons for his absence on his Facebook page, Dalung said he was not invited for the event.
“This morning I received so many phone calls expressing concerns about by physical absence at the flag up rally for the re-election of Governor Simon Bako Lalong which took place yesterday, 4th January 2019 at Rwang Pam Stadium Jos.
“I only heard the news of the political event on 3rd January 2019 at about 5.30 pm from a party stalwart and a senior citizen who also was not invited.
“Honestly, I was not invited otherwise nothing would have prevented me from attending or sending representation to say the least. Politics is all about relevance, you can only be invited to where you are relevant.
“To those who believe in me and expected me to be there should kindly forgive my absence because I was not invited” Dalung said.
He added that he had always honour invitations from the Plateau state government, stressing that he couldn’t have attended a function he was not invited.
“Let me state clearly that I have always honour any invitation from the state government but where there’s no express invitation for any function, I cannot be more catholic than the pope.
“I have an open and clear conscience over issues and my love and respect for humanity remains undiluted. It’s my hope and prayers that we have a peaceful and violence free elections in 2019. God bless Nigeria” the minister said.
