2019: NPC calls for prayers for peaceful elections


National Chairman of the Nigeria Peoples Congress (NPC), Mr. Suleiman Ahmed Akasawua has urged Nigerians to pray fervently for the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2019 general elections.
In a statement on Monday in Kaduna, Akasua noted that 2019 would be eventful for the country as Nigerians go to the poll to elect their leaders.
He said Nigerians will determine whether the country is ready to consolidate on the relatively peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections or return to the old ways of rigging and violence.
He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has a fundamental role to play towards achieving peaceful and credible elections, must be transparent and ensure levelled playing ground for all political parties during the elections.
Akasua urged the commission to do everything humanly possible to win the confidence and trust of Nigerians and stakeholders, by demonstrating that it will remain an unbiased umpire before, during and after the elections.
Akasawua said further that Nigerians were watching closely to see whether the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), will allow INEC to conduct free and credible elections without interference, having regards to the fact that the it benefited from the relatively credible elections conducted by the former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega in 2015.
He called on all Nigerians and relevant stakeholders to support the electoral body to enable it discharge its duties effectively.
