2019: Useni signifies interest in Plateau governorship race

Jeremiah Useni, former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and senator respresenting Plateau south senatorial district, has finally confirmed his rumoured ambition for the governorship race in Plateau state come 2019.
Speculations about Useni’s ambition had been rife, with many political observers wondering what the over 70 year old senator can offer in this digital age.
In a letter titled “Letter of intent to contest the governorship of Plateau state come 2019” and addressed to one of the members of House of Representatives from Plateau state,
Useni said he desires to run for the governorship race in the state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In the letter which was dated February 28, 2018, Useni said: “I write to intimate you of my noble intention to present myself for the service of our dear state (Plateau) by seeking the gubernatorial ticket under the platform of PDP.”
He said his “decision to contest is based on calls from various poiitical and other interest groups across the state urging me to contest the poll”.
“It is in the light of above, that I wish to kindly request for your support and prayers in actualizing this ambition” he added.
Useni, a retired army general and former military governor of the defunct Bendel state, held several top appointments including minister of transport, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) among several others during his military career before he retired and joined politics.
