2019: Group Begs Makarfi to Run for President


Northern youths, under the auspices of Arewa Youth and Development have appealed to former Kaduna state governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi to run for the 2019 presidency.
Addressing journalists at the end of their meeting on Sunday  at Arewa House, Kaduna, chairman of the group, Ibrahim Suleiman declared that if Makarfi fails to respond to their appeal within 30 days, the group will mobilise its members across the northern states for a procession to beg him.
According to Suleiman,  Makarfi will provide the desired leadership that will bring about positive change and transformation to Nigeria.
“If he does not answer our call, we will embark on mass procession to beg him. We are giving him 30 days to respond to our request” Suleiman said.
He noted that although Makarfi is not the only leader in the north, “but we believe that he has the experience and capacity to to provide the leadership that will transform Nigeria and unite the country”.
He said Makarfi’s excellent performance as the governor of a complex state like Kaduna for eight years,  stand him out as the most qualified to run for the presidency.
“Makarfi as Governor of Kaduna State from 1999 to 2007 experienced unprecedented‘record of success when the state witnessed clashes over the introduction of sharia lawfmost notably in 2000 for which “Makarli has been widely acclaimed for his reforms to diffuse the situation through a tripartite legal system and promoted dialogue among various groups in the state while also improving service delivery in the state” the group said.
The group  further recalled that,  the Makarfi administration also came up with the reforms in the traditional and cultural institutions in the state, which went a long way in resolving long standing issues among the various ethnic groups.
“Some of the traditional institutions have been struggling with boundary and identity problems for up to hundred years and the Makarfi administration at that time saw evidences that some had been struggling for decades and it was resolved by giving each ethnic group its independent identity and traditional establishment” Suleiman said.
According to him, Makari under took major infrastructural developments in the state since the inception of democracy in 1999, saying that, citizens of Kaduna state can attest to his developmental strides.
Suleiman described Makarfi as a patriot and detribalised Nigerian who will work towards the unity and progress of the country as president.
He added that the group will do everything possible to convince him to run for the presidency.
